LAHORE – National Highways and Motorways Police (NH&MP) Inspector General (IG) Dr Wasim Kausar reviewed the progress of lane discipline campaign started by N-5 Central Zone on Friday. N-5 Central Deputy Inspector General Syed Ibne Hussain and other senior Motorway Police officers were present at the meeting. The IG said tailgating, poor lane discipline and not using indicator while changing a lane were the violations that needed to be addressed. He said some drivers don’t keep a track of the third lane on Motorways, adding that the second lane on highways could only be used for overtaking.
He said besides causing inconvenience to other road users such inconsiderate driving was dangerous not only for the drivers but also for other road users. He directed all the officers to take action against the drivers who violate lane discipline. The IG further said that the sign boards like “Silence Zone”, “Observe Lane Discipline”, “Wear Seat Belt”, “Do not use cell phone while driving” etc give a message to the road users that the system cares about their safety. He said NH&MP needed public cooperation to present Pakistani’s image as a law abiding nation all over the world.

  1. I have a complaint against Motor way police. I was going to Lahore from Multan on 10th April 2012. On the Sahiwal Bypass some trailers blocked the road by placing there trailers containers but I am sorry to say this i wasted about one hour there and then took a loop of about 25 km towards south on katcha road but i did not find any Motorway Police person there. Many other people also facing this problem there and looking toward the Motorway police helplessly but no one came there. It was very astonishing for me when i saw a motor way police vehicle was standing there hidden while i was passing from that Katcha way . The officials sitting there were reading the newspaper and was doing smoking. I told them about the problem but they advised me to take this Katcha way to go and he has no concern of that protest and it was local police's problem although they protesting against the behavior of Motorway police. When after one hour loop i came back again to the road of Sahiwal bypass , it was just 2 km i passed and a speed checking camera vehicle was standing there and collecting fine from the passengers for over charging and did not paid any attention of this road blockage. It was also very surprising for me that the website of NH & MP does not contain any complaint column there so that way i am taking the opportunity of your column to bring this behavior of NH & MP officials in the notice of there high ups because this institution is going on our tax money.
