Pakistan is a country whose Senators, Members of National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies are very rich having properties worth billions of rupees in Pakistan and abroad. They also have dual nationalities. They dont declare the true worth of their assets and the source of their income every year to the election commission.

Similarly, Pakistani generals and civil bureaucrats are quite rich and own huge assets. They dont pay wealth and income tax honestly. The Federal Board of Revenue and Election Commission dont investigate whether correct taxes have been paid by parliamentarians on their income and assets because of their inherent corruption. They send their children abroad for education and if they return to Pakistan they are able to have lucrative jobs or enter politics.

The National Assemblys Public Accounts Committee has failed to questions senators and MNAs about their alleged financial misdeeds. The National Accountability Bureau has become No Action Bureau which is now dysfunctional but was earlier used by military dictators and civilian leaders for political expediency.

Across the board accountability is the need of the moment by establishing anti-corruption and tax collection authorities whose members should be men of impeccable integrity and well-known to the people.
