The governments practice of re-hiring retired employees on a contractual basis has ended despite the courts verdict regarding the matter. According to the lede in the Pakistan Today of 13th March, many employees have been re-hired and are serving on many posts throughout the bureaucratic and executive structure in Pakistan.
There is no rationale for these people continuing and it can harm institutional integrity as well as the tradition of meritocracy not to mention that it is contempt of court given that the apex court has ruled against it. I hope that the government will follow the letter of the law and appoint new people to these posts and let the retired official retire in peace. And since the SC has given this decision, it would be best if they apply it to their own benches as well and not give extensions to retired judges.
