Contrary to the belief that Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) is solely responsible for the rise in load shedding in the city, it is the government and SSGC who are mainly responsible for the issue of loadshedding in Karachi, which will increase with the onslaught of summer.
The fact of the matter is that due to the Governments ambiguous policy regarding its gas allocation for the power sector, companies like KESC have been forced to increase loadshedding. With the short fall of gas supply, there is no other choice but to use furnace oil, which is four times more expensive than gas and will become a nightmare for general public.
Bearing in mind the plight of the people of Karachi, the government and SSGC must increase the required supply of gas to KESC in order to minimise any possible increase in the tariff and load shedding for industrial hub of the country.
If the government is unable to make a concrete decision soon, come summer, the people of Karachi will suffer from additional load shedding.
