KARACHI – At least 12 people were killed and several others injured in the latest incidents of violence and targeted killings in Karachi on Saturday. Killing of an MQM worker in the afternoon created panic, leading to the closure of all business activities across the city.
Khurram, 40, son of Saleem was standing outside his house when two motorcyclists opened fire on him, killing him on the spot. City Town Superintendent of Police (SP) Qamar Raza Jiskani said the victim was an MQM worker of the Jelana Road Sector, Kharadar. Following the killing, unidentified armed men resorted to aerial firing in the town and forcibly closed shops in the area.
He said angry crowds set ablaze several vehicles, including a bus, truck and a rickshaw in Tower and Garden area. In separate acts of terror, unidentified pillion riders continued to strike their targets, killing at least 12 people on Saturday. At least four people, including a teenage boy, were killed in two separate incidents in Pehlwan Goth, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, two were gunned down in Garden and one each was killed in FB Area, Orangi, Super Highway, Memon Goth and Site area.
Meanwhile, Karachi Tajir Ittehad President Atiq Mir requested the Pakistan Army to take control of the city, saying the national exchequer had faced a loss of over Rs 6 billion in just three days of violence. He said the army must take control of the city to save country from financial destruction.
