LAHOREb – The Agriculture Department Punjab has established facilitation centres for the farmer in the Potohar region as the wheat crop is reported to be attacked by pests’ infestation (rust/aphid) because of the prolonged wet spell and cloudy weather. According to a spokesman of the department, regular monitoring by Extension and Pest Warning staff is under way to avoid any eventuality.
The condition of Wheat crop, cultivated on an area of 16.5 million acres, is satisfactory as the off take of quality wheat seed, urea and DAP fertiliser was better up to December than last year. He said instructions had been issued by the DG Agriculture Extension to the field staff especially in high humid zone (Lahore, Gujranwala and Rawalpindi divisions) to arrange meetings by involving the related staff to survey the wheat crop and prepare strategy to combat problems if any.
