I went through the Comment Pages of Pakistan Today the other day and could not stop myself to write a few lines. No comment piece was independent or unbiased, unfortunately. Some arguments in favour of the politics of reconciliation were a cruel joke with the people of Pakistan. To sit with the killers of our countrymen in Karachi, or support the party that imposed governors rule in Punjab; what kind of reconciliation is it? Even Benazir did reconciliation and upheld morals when she was talking with Musharraf behind closed doors.
We dont know whether the decision of PML(N) regarding Unification Bloc is right or moral but we do know one thing; that all our political parties have people from other parties. Our PM was once in Zia’s Majlas-e-Shura. Even Imran Khan gave his partys ticket to a person who belonged to PML(Q).
We want democracy, no doubt about that. Some things are political realities in Pakistan and they will only go off the screen only when the system becomes strong. Thats what we, who voted in 2008 elections, think and are hoping for a better democracy in next elections.
I am also surprised that our government is very ruthless against the media yet I find very few people in both electronic and print media who are not in its favour.
