LAHORE – The International Children’s Day of Broadcasting was celebrated on Sunday on which children depicted their broadcasting skills on various TV channels. The day is celebrated on the 1st Sunday of March’s1st week every year. The day has become UNICEF’s most successful initiatives. Various Pakistani TV Channels including Dawn News and Geo News sent out child reporters; also children and even teenagers expressed their talent as a broadcaster.
Students said that broadcast journalists such as Hamid Mir, Fahad Hussain and Moeed Pirzada had become their role models. Children also worked with producers in newsrooms and learnt the art of production. Momin Butt, a seventh grade student said, “I have always wanted to opt for a profession which can influence the society and I found broadcast journalism the best way to do it”.
With the increasing interest of students in media, especially the electronic media, the number of institutions offering media education has increased with the private sector jumping in to train media students. A media expert said that the most important part of broadcast journalism was confidence building. He said most people living in the third world countries were camera and microphone shy and by training children at a younger age, a number of good broadcasters filed can be produced.
