QUETTA – The military officials of NATO and Pakistan held a meeting on Friday to discuss the security issues and the attacks on the vehicles carrying supplies to Afghanistan in Balochistan. A 13-member NATO delegation led by Maj General James I Terry arrived in Quetta the morning in two helicopters from Kandahar province of Afghanistan. They later went to the Corps Headquarters and met Commander Southern Command Lt Gen Javed Zia.
The NATO officials expressed their grave concern over the attacks on the vehicles transporting supplies to the allied forces in different areas of Balochistan and requested the Pakistani side to take remedial measures. In response, Lt Gen Javed Zia assured the visiting delegation for conveying their request to the provincial government for proper action, including increase of night patrolling and deploying police and levies force with the caravans. The two sides discussed the security situation on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
According to the knowledgeable sources, the border violations on the part of NATO and Afghan forces particularly at Qamarddin Karaiz in Zhob district also came under discussion. The two sides agreed to improve the situation by extending further cooperation. The sources say the NATO viewed that the border violations were not deliberate.
