ISLAMABAD – Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Pakistan on Thursday came up with a clear and categorical stance on the assassination of Minorities Minister Shahbaz Bhatti, saying it was condemnable in the maximum possible terms. “A murder whether it is of a Muslim or a Christian can never be justified. A Muslim cannot even think of killing a Christian on difference of opinion,” JI Islamabad Secretary General Khalid Farooq and others said in a statement. They said the murder of Shahbaz Bhatti was a conspiracy to bring Muslims and Christians at daggers drawn against each other.
“The very fact that foreign forces, particularly CIA and Blackwater, had been found involved in such incidents can never be ignored,” they added. The JI leaders feared that the murder of Bhatti was an attempt to divert the attention of the people from the killing of two Pakistanis at the hands of the US national, Raymond Davis.
They were of the view that Christians residing in Pakistan had always stood by the nation in a time of crisis.
They demanded a judicial probe into the incident and protection of life and property of non-Muslims in the country.
