An international agriculture centre will be set up at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad to provide a firm foundation to the sector by focusing on genetic revolution, climate change, biotechnology, precision agriculture, efficient use of agricultural input, etc. Setting up an international centre is a welcome step, particularly when our economy is mainly based on agriculture sector that has been neglected in the past despite hollow announcements by almost all governments. Some people want to ruin this important and already crumbling sector by imposing agriculture tax as overwhelming majority of the poor people belong to this sector. Such a move is bound to enhance the level of poverty in Pakistan further.
I suggest that such a centre may also be set up in Agriculture University in Tando Jam in Sindh as it is badly needed there. While setting up such centres, the government should give first priority to those areas that are backward so that they should be brought to the mainstream for the better future of the country.
