Students demand furniture, separate girls school

HAFIZABAD – The students of Primary School Kot Miran who have to sit on the ground despite the purchase of plastic furniture worth Rs 110 million by the district administration have urged the Punjab government to order the authorities concerned to supply the required furniture and posting of teaching staff at the earliest. Reportedly, there are more than 200 male and female students in the Government Primary School village Kot Miran, Markaz Sukheki.
Only two teachers are teaching the male and female students. The district government had purchased plastic furniture worth more than Rs 110 million, but this school was ignored at the time of distribution of the furniture. The students have appealed to the Punjab government to order the district administration to supply furniture, besides posting teachers in the school.
On the other hand, the parents of the female students have demanded establishment of a separate girls primary school in the village. It is worth mentioning that former Bank of Punjab president Hamesh Khan belongs to this village.
PACE OF UPLIFT SCHEMES REVIEWED: The Punjab government has completed 51 development schemes in the district to provide missing facilities to the schools under the Education Reforms Programme. This was stated at a meting chaired by District Coordination Officer Muhammad Asif.
The performance of monitoring officers, pace of work on the development schemes and attendance of teachers in the schools were reviewed. EDO (Education) Sohail Azhar Khan, District Monitoring Officer Muhammad Arshad and other officers concerned also attended the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, the district administrator said the Punjab government was taking every possible measure to promote education and it was the responsibility of the teachers to perform their duty honestly with the passion of the national service to achieve the target of “Literate Punjab” set by the provincial government. He urged the officers to ensure 100 per cent attendance in the schools and improve quality of education.
