This is with reference to Asif Shahzad’s letter on the issue of the mismanagement in PIA and its gross mishandling by the PPP government.
The brutality of baton charging police force and danda bardar thugs of Feisal Abidi beating unarmed peacefully protesting men and women workers of PIA was a shameful act, televised on live TV.
For months, the workers were agitating to draw attention of the government to the unprecedented escalation in losses of over Rs 1.5 Billion per month, financial irregularities in procurement and the dubious deal with Turkish Airlines. It would be better if the PPP under its co-chairman Asif Zardari decided to stop protecting and appointing cronies involved in vindictive mismanagement of tax-payer owned state corporations.
The PPP would be better served if it decides to launch an impartial judicial investigation, headed by a serving judge of High Court, into the various alleged irregularities committed by former MD Ejaz Haroon, who has done immense damage to the PPP’s image amongst the workers. What PIA needs is a competent management headed by men of integrity, instead of semi-literate street smart thugs.
