ISLAMABAD – President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani while underlining that Islam rejects terrorism and extremism Tuesday said those who used religion to justify their heinous and reprehensible acts of terrorism had nothing to do with the Muslims and Islam.
The two leaders expressed these views in separate messages in connection with 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, Eid Milad-un-Nabi to be observed today (Wednesday). The president said, “Everyone, particularly the Muslims, on the auspicious birth day of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) today.”
The need for imbibing the true message of tolerance and understanding preached and practiced by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) had never been as great as it was today, he said.
Premier Gilani said, “The literal meaning of word ‘Islam’ is peace and security. Humanity is the centre of Islamic teachings and Islam can rightly be credited with being a guarantor of man’s welfare in this world and hereafter.”
He said the misguided individuals’ act were against what Islam stood for and espoused.
“A peaceful religion such as Islam fully rejects terrorism and extremism. The entire life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) bears testimony to the fact that Islam guarantees shelter and protection for the entire humanity.”
