LAHORE – When sometimes words fail to explain the thoughts wedged in your head, lines seem to do the job just fine. They converse candidly and develop a communication with the viewer, who not only just listens to what these lines have to say, but also talks back. And lines in return just seem to answer all the right questions, wrong questions and even the unasked; they appear to have seen and seem to have known it all.
Such a dialogue with a few lines was on display in the shape of a group exhibition, titled ‘Lines that Talk’. The show opened on February 12 at the Revivers Galleria in Gulberg. The exhibition managed to draw many art lovers to come and have a word with lines that talk. The drawings’ exhibition also marked the second anniversary of the gallery. It is scheduled to continue for 17 days till February 28.
Mian Naseer Ahmad Bhutta, a member of the National Assembly, from the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, was given the honour to be the first person to communicate with these lines; he was the chief guest and he inaugurated the exhibition. On display were 75 artefacts of nine well known artists; Iqbal Hussain, Saeed Akhtar, Mansoor Rahi, Hajra Mansoor, Raja Changez Sultan, Chitra Pretam, Abrar Ahmad Baber Azeemi, and Jimmy Engineer.
The opportunity was rare, so was the sight, a complete eye watering, mouth sweetening treat for the art lovers and collectors, who had the guts to bear the yelling resonance of these lines; the earthly celestial works of the nine prominent stars known for their professionalism in mesmerising the viewers of their creations.
