QUETTA – Dozens of houses were damaged and hundreds of people affected as widespread heavy rain and snowfall lashed Balochistan. A child was injured when a house collapsed in Chattan Pati area of Jaffarabad district while dozens of mud houses were damaged in Naseerabad, Usta Muhammad, Jaffarabad, Jhal Magsi and other eastern parts of the province.
Torrential rain that started on Saturday continued till Sunday morning, badly paralysing normal life. According to reports, heavy rain caused flash floods and disrupted electricity supply, sewerage system and vehicular traffic. The rain water also entered into the tents of flood affectees in Naseerabad and Jaffarabad, multiplying their miseries.
On other hand, heavy rain and snowfall were reported in Harnai, Chaman and some other parts of the province. Dozens of Quetta- bound vehicles had been trapped in Chapparlift area of Harnai and at Kozak Top, the mountainous range in Chaman, as heavy snow blocked the roads. Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani directed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to remain alert owing to the widespread rain.
According to a handout issued Sunday, the PDMA dispatched 200 tents and 200 food packets to Qila Abdullah while a special control room was established in order to monitor the overall situation. Meanwhile, the Metrological Department predicted more rain in northern, southwestern and central parts of Balochistan during the next 24 hours.
