Nasrullah Khans excellent letter on the above subject misses one important point, that of feather-bedding on a massive scale in the public sector organisations.
Recently, a KESC representative has said that on the issue of the retrenched workers, the government has pushed KESC into a cul d sac. That if KESC is not allowed to take independent decisions regarding its workers, it may be forced to part ways with the companys management.
Apart from the severe drain on the economy, this is proving to be a big bottleneck in the privatising the white elephants. All attempts at privatising PEPCO have failed for this reason.
