KARACHI – The Pakistan Customs Drug Enforcement Cell (DEC) Karachi Airport Unit recovered and confiscated two kilogrammes of heroin from the possession of a female passenger of Zambia on Wednesday.
The Customs DEC staff, following a tip-off that the drug mafia has been using African female passengers for drug trafficking, intercepting a Zambian passenger Rosaria Mubanga at the International Departure Hall of the Jinnah International Airport when she arrived there to take an Emirates Airlines flight for Johannesburg, South Africa via Dubai.
Her baggage containing a large consignment of women’s adornments including plastic hairclips and elastic hair bands was subjected to thorough examination which ultimately led to the recovery of two kilogrammes of fine quality heroin concealed in the plastic hairclips. The female passenger was arrested and a prosecution case under the Control of Narcotics Substances Act, 1997 was registered against her.
The Customs DEC has thwarted six drug smuggling bids so far this year in which narcotics were being taken to various destinations including Thailand, Cyprus, Canada, Dhaka and Hong Kong.
