Federal Minister for Water and Power has reportedly said that plans are afoot for building small and large dams but Kalabagh dam is excluded till the elusive consensus is achieved between the provinces. It is well known that under the current status of dams, Kalabagh dam is the best option as far as feasibility, site and time span of completion, and funding prospects are concerned. The implementation of Water Accord of 1991 is awaited to ensure water shares of all the provinces. Without the dam the shares of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab cannot be ensured and water stored in upstream dams including Bhasha dam would flow down to Sindh in entirety.
