This is apropos the letter Seasonal rivers? of Salman Bashir. The writer claims the release of water to sea is wastage. I may add to the knowledge of Mr Bashir that 74 deltas exist throughout the world and water is released to push the sea intrusion everywhere.
Indus delta is the sixth largest one that is on verge of unnatural death due to non-release of water downstream Kotri despite 10 maf water was to be released to cater the needs of 2.7 million people residing between Kotri and Arabian Sea and also to Indus delta as per Water Accord 1991.
The release of water to downstream Kotri and Arabian Sea is a mandatory requirement and not a waste of water.
