LAHORE – Security forces remained on high alert during rallies organized by different political and religious parties on Kashmir day with the day passing by smoothly. Elite force personnel patrolled the rally’s main routes with security beefed across the city to monitor suspicious movement.
The seven entry and exit pints of the city were closely monitored. Around 1000 security personnel were deputed on the main routes of the rallies arranged by the Jamat e Islami and banned outfit Jamat-ud-Dawa that had started from Nasir Bagh ended at Faisal Chowk.
Two Superintendent of Police SP’s, 20 DSP’s, over hundred inspectors and sub inspectors were deputed to avoid untoward incidents. 200 security personnel’s were deputed as a reserve force with four Rescue 1122 ambulances and fire trucks on close guard during the procession.
Over 299 Traffic wardens were deputed to avoid traffic jams. Rally organizers met police before the rally to ensure they would maintain decorum and avoid fights. SP Security Faisal Rana told Pakistan Today that participants were checked and sent through walk-through gates before entry.
He said policemen were deployed on building tops to check movements and sniffer dogs guarded the rally’s entry points. He confirmed no suspicious movement was reported during the rally.
The Mall was closed to general public during the demonstration to ensure a peaceful demonstration, reduce the security risks and avoid a traffic mess. City traffic police helped commuters by providing a divergence plan, he added.
