LAHORE – Desi Boyz and Newage Cables snatched a half-a-goal win on the opening day of the Nurpur Polo Cup here at the LPC ground on Monday. Desi Boyz edged aside Army/PAF team sponsored by MCB by six to five-and-a-half goals while Newage Cables defeated Frontier Works Organization by seven-and-a-half goals to seven.
Shah Qublai Alam hit four of the six goals the winning team scored while Raja Arsalan Najeeb came up with two to take charge of the match. Maj Omer Minhas was the scorer for the losing side. In Newage win, Shah Shamyl Alam with three goals and Zain Khan Khakwani and Adnan Jalil Azam with one goal each dominated the first two chukkars. Manual Crespo dominated the later two chukkers but Newage Cables with two-and-a half-goal advantage earned a slender margin win. Crespo scored five goals while Lt.
Asif Manzoor and Maj. Gen. Isfandyar Ali Khan Pataudi added one goal each from the losing side. Umpires for the matches were Gaston Moore, Hassan Ali Farrukh, Hissam Ali Hyder and Vierri Antinori.
