LAHORE – As the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) land purchase scam investigation is moving ahead in the Supreme Court, the Chaudhry brothers are panicking and their fright at surfacing of solid evidences against their blue-eyed political successor of involvement in fraud of billions of rupees is natural, a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesman said on Friday.
The spokesman advised the Chaudhrys to refrain from levelling allegations against the PML-N and worry about facing the court. He said that Chaudhrys should return looted money worth Rs 220 million and seek pardon of the court and people. The spokesman said that Chaudhrys claim that they did not flee from the country after seeking pardon but they always promote their interests and looted the national exchequer in the NICL scam. He said that as far as the London and Jeddah properties of the Sharif brothers are concerned, there is nothing secret about them.
He said that sons of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif are doing legitimate business abroad and they had started this business during exile of the Sharif family. The spokesman said that former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf, who had declared Nawaz as his worst enemy, conducted an investigation into Sharif brothers’ assets and bank accounts but no irregularity was found in this regard.
He said that a prime accused in the case (Moonis Elahi) has fled from the country and the Chaudhrys are creating hue and cry on his innocence in the media and other forums. The spokesman said that if Chaudhrys are innocent they should prove this fact in the court and remember that courts are now independent, contrary to their favourite Dogar courts.
