‘Maalik never implicated any politician in NICL scam’

LAHORE – At-Tahur Co Manager Muhammad Maalik has not implicated any politician in the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) land purchase scam, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Information Secretary Kamil Ali Agha said on Friday. Revealing Maalik’s court statement, he said that a slander campaign has been initiated against PML-Q Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) Chaudhry Moonis Elahi for implicating him in the NICL scam.
Agha said that it has been reported that Maalik told Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials during interrogation that Rs 220 million were given to Moonis, which is contrary to the FIA’s claims. The PML-Q leader said that in a court in Lahore, Maalik stated that he is neither concerned with the account numbers and cheques nor opened any account which is mentioned in the FIR and the applicant did not deposit the cheques or withdraw any amount.
He said that FIA personnel pressurised and mentally tortured Maalik so that the applicant might record his statement against some politicians and the government could arrest its political rivals and fulfill its political objectives.
Agha said that there seems to be a consistent pattern to falsely implicate the Chaudhry family in cases which have nothing to do with them and this is a politically motivated campaign and recently, a similar attempt in the Bank of Punjab scam had also miserably failed.
