Couple of months back, I received some SMS on my cell phone by a company claiming to have developed a software which can send thousands of text messages to all the active cell phone numbers of the six cell phone companies operating in Pakistan to advertise products, services etc. Price of this software including thousands of active cell phone numbers was Rs 1500 only.
I have been receiving at least 10 promotional messages daily by fumigation companies, furniture makers, real estate agents, etc. These messages are sent without taking into consideration the time. Sometimes, they arrive at 3:00 am disturbing sleep.
An organisation looking after the interests of consumers in India, sometime ago, had filed a case in a court of law that some companies were sending unsolicited promotional messages to mobile phone subscribers.
The court in its final hearing warned the companies not to send promotional messages to anyone anywhere in India unless the subscribers agree for it at the time of purchasing mobile phone connection.
Will someone looking after the interests of consumers in Pakistan please help?
