Davis not an ordinary person, say investigators

LAHORE – US national Raymond Davis, identified to be a technical expert working in the US Consulate in Lahore, does not seem to be an ordinary person, but a professional, investigation experts told Pakistan Today on Thursday.
A senior police investigator said Davis’ encounter with the ‘robbers’ did not seem to be an ordinary incident or a mere coincidence, as it resulted in the death of three young Pakistanis within no time. He said though it would be difficult to establish whether Davis was a technical expert or not, his shooting skills underlined one thing and that was that he was a professional who could even manage to shoot and bring down his target from within his car.
The expert said in case the incident was a robbery and the men chasing him were robbers, Davis could have reacted in many other ways, adding that the area where the incident happened was a busy place. He could have shouted and raised an alarm to attract the attention of passers-by, the official said, adding however that his reaction seemed extreme, although the expert didn’t explain how Davis could have protected himself.
Even though police had identified the “robbers”, it seems that they too were professionals, probably following the US national wielding guns. Former diplomat Shamshad Ahmed said diplomats do not generally have permission to carry weapons but American diplomats have been caught by the local police in possession of weapons on a number of occasions.
Ahmed said the man involved in killing three Pakistanis would soon be released by the government after which he will fly back home. An investigator said Davis could be a CIA agent and was in Pakistan on a visit visa.
