ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani on Monday ordered an immediate inquiry into the news reports about the Foreign Ministry’s visa scam alleging the involvement of ministry’s officials in the issuance of introductory letters to unauthorised people for obtaining visas for different countries.
Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir also regretted the press reports on alleged visa scam and said a formal inquiry had been ordered into the allegations. He added that it was preposterous to implicate the leadership in the so-called visa scam and reflected the evident motivations behind these reports. He further said that besides the internal inquiry, the ministry would take all other appropriate steps in the matter but he added that any attempt to run down an important institution was regrettable.
