Women MPAs staged a walkout of the Punjab Assembly the other day because Rana Sanaullah made some facetious remarks about their funds not being released tothem. The logic of the Punjab Assembly was that any woman could get funds by proposing a programme. If it is truly gender-discrimination, and not the endemic inefficiency of the Punjab government, then it should be rectified.
Giving women quota seats during the Musharraf times was simply eyewash. These MNAs and MPAs get token profiles like Womens Development etc. These women are full MPAs and most of them have won seats fair and square on normal rather than reserved seats. They deserve their funds and their respect. They should be accorded with the same opportunity to squander money and be inefficient like the men do.
