In our country, approximately 95 percent people are illiterate. Illiteracy is a real curse for any nation. It has many disadvantages. Most important disadvantage of illiteracy is that illiterate people do not gain any knowledge from books, magazines, newspapers, etc. They cannot learn anything new through reading. Uneducated people do not know well their rights and duties towards society. They dont know law of the country because they are not able to read them from any written material. When they dont know about any law, then they will not be able to use their democratic rights. They cannot elect their representatives intelligently.

Another disadvantage to illiterate people is that they cannot progress well in life. They cannot get jobs in government sector. They also are not able to run their own business. Only properly educated people can promote the country in suitable ways. Our poets, doctors, engineers arise out of educated people. On the other hand, illiterate person can do work with his hands, struggle more and earn less. We should make the best efforts to educate the illiterate people. For this we can try and take responsibility to educate at least one illiterate person.

If we work on it, our nation will be out of the curse of illiteracy and will progress well.
