The launching of Daanish School System (DSS) in remote, less-developed and deprived regions like Rahim Yar Khan, Hasilpur, Chishtian (Bahawalnagar), DG Khan, Piplan (Mianwali) and Jand (Attock) should be a welcome step by all provided it continues to serve the purpose for which it is created with much fanfare. Punjab government claims it to be exclusively meant for the poorest of the poor children who have no access to quality education.
According to media reports, all modern facilities will be made available in these schools which will provide opportunity to the male and female students to get modern knowledge and free access to latest technological advancements through the internet. Similarly, all relevant sports activities including horse-riding, football and hockey are planned to be included in this plan as well. This will hopefully infuse sportsman spirit in the young minds.
The government should get support of all the opposition parties including the PPP so that DSS could not be wrapped-up after this government departs from the power corridors. Such innovative initiatives should continue as they are public assets and serve the collective good.
