A recent report in the media stated that at least 1400 political appointments have been made in the Sindh Police. This report is worrisome to say the least. These appointments have been to the 1900 vacant constable seats in Karachi. It just goes on to prove that we have learned nothing from our past experiences.
Karachi is a city that is already marred with political, religious and ethnic violence. On top of all this, the already beleaguered police force is being subjected to political hiring.
It should be realised that politics is presenting the greatest hindrance in the effectiveness of the police force in controlling the law and order situation. It is imperative that the institution should be cleared of political elements, so it can perform efficiently.
