Many educational institutes have been blown up by religious extremists. In the last two years there were more than 900 private schools that were shut down by the school administrators. This was due to the line of violent attacks that burnt down over 180 schools in the Swat Valley. The situation is the most critical in KP and Balochistan where the female literacy rate stands between three per cent and eight per cent. In addition to this the killing and kidnapping of female school teachers added to the misery of academic year. This disastrous year put the future education of estimated 125,000 women on risk under the Taliban threat.
