PESHAWAR – Speakers at a seminar here on Sunday urged upon government to ensure the supremacy of the law and equal rights of the citizens and eliminate indiscrimination on the basis of gender and cast.
The seminar was held by an NGO called Shed. The moot was titled “Voice for Peace”. Speakers said that government had totally failed in providing security, justice and maintaining law and order situation in the country and hence giving rise to the killings and insecurity increasing with every passing day.
They said due to the government’s ‘wrong policies’ and ‘self-interests’ that some people were involved in crimes being done in the name of culture and religion and hence threatening life and rights of the women, children and minorities.
They were of the view that whenever the weaker segments of society particularly the women raise their voice in protest, they are victimised in the name of honor, customs and taboos. They said due to the poor policies of the government, the extremists and terrorists have become powerful non-state actors. They called for provision of equal opportunities and rights to all citizens.
