Never before have I felt so disgusted, ashamed and angry as I was on the 29 December when the sanctity of our homes was violated by televising the foul mouthed language of two MNAs by private TV channels.
The leader of Opposition, although remaining civil, using sugar coated pinching remarks should have refrained from commenting on private life of a politician, especially if it relates to his marriage. Politicians should exercise more restraint and tolerance instead of intruding into the private lives of other politicians.
Although in democratic societies people who offer themselves for public political service are open to scrutiny because they play a vital role in decision making process. For example, drug or alcohol addicts, or men with a history of corruption, should have no role of heading political parties because they would usher in an era of irresponsible behaviour and obscenity.
The reply by MQM was obscene, repulsive and broke all democratic and parliamentary norms that any civil society should tolerate. The province of Sindh has endured this ethnic poison cum blackmail and use of violence for quite some time while others chose to remain silent. This language was worse than that of mafioso style street urchins who excel either with their trigger happy target killings, or their foul mouthed uttering, that should never have been allowed to be televised.
While the media was only reflecting what was happening, it should have exercised restraint and refrained from broadcasting such abusive remarks that would infuriate a whole ethnic community.
The most repulsive verbal haemorrhoids was the statement that mujras are being held in every household of Punjab. Perhaps all limits of decency were crossed by dragging in daughters and sisters of politicians to prove their loyalty to their dons residing abroad who have played havoc with the peace and tranquillity of Karachi for past two decades. Even the faade of Nazim of Karachi was shattered when he came on a channel to vent out more poison, to remind us of his abuses few years back while defending trigger happy Musharrafs illegitimate rule.
It seems to be a deliberate attempt to incite violence and alienate the whole population from democratic politics. Fortunately, the people of Pakistan can see through evil designs of few pawns of foreign powers out to harm the federation. Sanity must prevail, because violence and filthy abuses have no place in any civilised society.
