Alternative energy sources have great potential for humans. The solar, wind, sea water and coal can solve our energy problems. But we should not forget energy from river water as well. None of the former will give us water which the latter will in abundant quantities. We can survive without energy but not without food.
What is required is an open debate on dams. As long as the people of Sindh continue to think that Kalabagh dam will deplete the flow in the Indus and that Punjab will deprive Sindh of its due share, they will never agree to the dam being built. Similar will be the case for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa if their apprehensions are not addressed.
It is the responsibility of the national press to be more proactive on a subject of such vital importance to the nation, a mere editorial every now and then will not do.
