It is heartening to know that the police have finally started to hold members of their institution accountable for misusing their position and authority. The recent suspension of three cops, including an ASI in Faisalabad for public torture of a labourer and case registration against a cop for wheeling in Lahore are perfect examples. Many of us will not deem this to be enough but, we should perceive this as progress towards the reformation of this institution. Where once the police used to conceal and protect the wrongdoings of one of their own, now they are openly setting examples to prevent such abuses of authority. Its a start but there is still a long way to go.
