LAHORE: Punjab Population Welfare Provincial Minister Neelam Jabbar has said that huge funds are being spent on social protection and economic development of women while new projects would be launched for their welfare under Gender Reform Action Plan.
Addressing the office bearers of a local Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), she said that those who dedicated their lives and resources to social welfare and betterment of women were assets to the society and government would support such people, NGOs and other institutions for creating awareness among public regarding women’s rights. Billions of rupees had been earmarked for mother and child care programmes, she said adding that government was struggling to empower the women following the guidelines of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. She said that government had evolved a comprehensive plan to provide women with equal opportunities and for this purpose, women’s welfare was being safeguarded in all schemes related to economic and social development.
