ISLAMABAD: The Muttahida Muslim League (MML), a four-party alliance of Muslim League factions, has geared up its efforts to form a broad-based political alliance to create a third force to challenge the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), sources said.
A source in the MML told Pakistan Today that the alliance was now contacting heads of smaller parties to form a broad-based political alliance.
“Ijazul Haq and Salim Saifullah recently held an exclusive meeting with Qazi Hussain Ahmed, former Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami seeking JI’s alliance with the MML,” said the source, adding that the MML leaders will also call on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chief Imran Khan.
The source said MML had lost hope in PML-N and were hopeful that PML-Q would join in soon enough.
When contacted, Ijazul Haq confirmed that he and Senator Salim Saifullah had met Qazi Hussain Ahmed, adding that Agha Murtaza Poya, the senior leader of Tahirul Qadri’s Pakistan Awami Tehreek had also accompanied them, adding that they will meet Imran Khan also. “We are also in touch with nationalist parties of Balochistan and the Sindh Awami Alliance (SAA) has also promised to be the part of that alliance,” he said.
