KARACHI: The Interior Ministry has directed Sindh’s authorities to maintain a record of Chinese nationals, particularly investors working in different sectors in the province, so that measures could be taken for their security, Pakistan Today has learnt.
According to sources in the Sindh government, the provincial governments of Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have also been directed to update the entire record of Chinese nationals by the end of each month to ensure their safety.
The Sindh Home Department was recently directed by the Interior Ministry to maintain the count of Chinese nationals working on various projects, companies and running their own businesses in Pakistan.
The sources said that the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) has warned China of terror attacks on its citizens throughout the world, following which the Chinese government requested the Pakistani government to ensure safety and security of its citizens.
The law enforcement agencies (LEAs) have submitted a report to the federal government speculating that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and other banned outfits could attack Chinese nationals in the country. Security arrangements for Chinese nationals at their installations, consulates and companies have been enhanced by deploying plainclothes LEAs personnel. The law enforcers have also started collecting information of Chinese nationals working in all four provinces and a report would soon be submitted to the National Crisis Management Cell.
