On behalf of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, I congratulate Mr Arif Nizami and Mr Javed Choudhry on the launch of the Karachi edition of Pakistan Today. I am confident that Pakistan Todays talented team will create space for themselves in the vibrant world of Pakistani print journalism.
The history of our country is dotted with examples of how people of various provinces have often been alienated from each other. As a result, many have fallen to negative propaganda about the movements and struggles of their fellow citizens. We hope that Pakistan Today in particular will not only serve as a liaison between the people of Sindh and Punjab but also maintain impartiality in its treatment of various issues.
Inflation, unemployment and terrorism have been tearing our country apart for the past many years. Much of this is because the feudal system and mentality have been bedded in our collective psyche, and as a nation, our progress is hampered by a chosen few ruling over the masses of this country.
Such a situation provides us all with a challenge and an opportunity. Our challenge is to restructure the very foundations of this country, to foster tolerance among people of various beliefs, to provide employment to the disgruntled but extremely talented youth, to control inflation, and to increase the standard of living for every citizen. Here is an opportunity for the youth and the middle-classes to contribute to rebuilding our country in an attempt to see a stronger and more prosperous Pakistan of tomorrow.
A new newspaper brings with it hope for a better tomorrow. I hope that Pakistan Today will be among the vanguard of change, and stands besides us in this daunting challenge. I wish Pakistan Today the best for the future in the hope that this newspaper will serve to further progressive and enlightened values.
