Afghan MPs demand president form new parliament

KABUL: A group of about 100 Afghan lawmakers demanded on Monday President Hamid Karzai inaugurate a new parliament by Dec. 19, almost three weeks after final results of a fraud-marred parliamentary election were declared.
Afghanistan has effectively been without a parliament since the Sept. 18 vote, a worrying sign of political instability as Washington finalises a review of its Afghanistan war strategy.
There have been reports of the attorney general’s office asking the Supreme Court to annul the election but the group of parliamentarians also said neither body had any authority “to interfere in the election process”.
