One of their own

This refers to the incident at Shahdara, Lahore; where hundreds of people of various localities thrashed and detained a cop in plain clothes. The people mistook him for a robber and were being provoked to lynch him. The point to be noted here is how the police came to the rescue of one of their own. It is reported that reserve contingents were called in and senior police officials also arrived at the scene. Even the use of force was being pondered upon, in order to rescue the cop. The cop was released later after seven hours of detention.

My question is why were these same measures not taken, when an angry mob was lynching two kids in Sialkot? Would the police, who were present on the scene, have taken any action only if those two kids were one of their own?
