There is a picture of a fallen donkey under the heavy weight of load stuck on the poor animals neck in the Pakistan Today of 09-12-2010. This shows a general apathy towards cruelty on animals in our society. There used to be a Society of Preventing Cruelty to Animals in Lahore which used to fine and issue challans to people inflicting cruelty on animals in the form of overloading donkey carts or other animal driven carts which has apparently withered away. There is a need also to steer the society away from cruelty to animals as per Islamic norms and the SPCA could play a useful role if it is strengthened to punish the law breakers who mete out cruelty to animals so blatantly.

What is the situation with Lahore SPCA now? There is an office at the Lahore Vet College, but the phone is never answered.
When I asked at the SPCA office at Lahore Veterenarian College, Lahore, where could I take injured animals, or how could I report cruelty, the answer I got was that "it was in God's Hands"
SPCA Okara is nice working
It is the lack of education and low graphs of literacy among the adult population of the developing countries that is the biggest hindrance factor in their development. There should be an adequate focus on the adult education to make the country move fast towards success.
