QUETTA: Confusion prevailed in the provincial capital in the wake of claims and denials by banned militant organisations regarding the suicide bomb attack on Balochistan Chief Minister Aslam Raisani on Tuesday.
Following the suicide attack in which Raisani escaped unhurt in his bullet-proof vehicle, a caller, introducing himself as Zahid Jhangvi of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi International, called the Quetta Press Club, claiming that LJI had carried out the attack.
Detailing the reasons of the attack, Jhangvi said Raisani and his government had been protecting Shias in the province. Later, one Ali Sher Haideri of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi told a news agency over telephone that his organisation had no one named Zahid and it had no involvement in Tuesday’s attack.
He said to attribute the attack to Lashkar-e-Jhangvi was regrettable, as it was not involved in the attack on chief minister. Haideri said it was a clear attempt on part of intelligence agencies to defame the group.
Media circles have so far been unable to decide whether to consider the denial by Haideri.
