Strike in Sindh against journalist’s murder

MIRPUKRHAS: Police on Monday registered an FIR against four brothers of Qaimkhani community for the murder of Mirpurkhas Press Club ex-president Sultan Mehmood Chandio while a complete shutter-down strike was observed in different parts of lower Sindh on the call of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz.
The town police registered the murder case on the complaint of Sultan Mehmood Chandio’s cousin, Barkat Ali Chandio, against four brothers, Saleem Qaimkhani, Aleem Qaimkhani, Waseem Qaimkhani and Nadeem Qaimkhani. The police could not arrest the accused nominated in the FIR so far.
Meanwhile, journalists, political as well as religious parties, nationalists and civil society activists took out rallies in Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Umerkot, Sanghar, Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Jamshoro, Hala, Nawabshah, Shehdadpur, Sukkur and other cities and towns of Sindh.
A complete shutter-down strike was also observed in different cities and towns of lower and upper parts of Sindh against the murder of Sultan Mehmood Chandio.
Though President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, the Sindh chief minister and federal as well as provincial ministers took strict notice of the incident, Mirpurkhas police failed to arrest the accused. Special teams, headed by Mirpurkhas DIG Rasool Bux Sandh, have been set up to arrest the accused on the orders of Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza.
Meanwhile, a condolence meeting was held at Bhitai Cultural Hall here on Monday to mourn the demise of Sultan Mehmood Chnadio.
