LAHORE: Renowned sufi singer Abida Parveen underwent an angioplasty at the Doctor’s Hospital on Sunday after suffering a heart attack on Saturday. After the operation, she was shifted to a private room. Parveen’s condition was critical after the heart attack but the angioplasty was performed and a stent was inserted.
According to doctors, her condition is stable now and she will be discharged within four to five days. Parveen would be able to sing in 45 days, the doctors said. National Hospital Dr Sarwar told Pakistan Today that Parveen was currently in a stable condition and had suffered her first heart attack. “The attack was very serious and in fact we had to contact her family to ask their permission for any kind of surgery, because something needed to be done right away,” he said.
Sarwar said that the family gave them permission by morning and the angiography was performed at around 10am. “She suffers from diabetes, but that did not matter in this case,” he said. He said that she had now been moved to the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) and that her condition was improving, but slowly. There was a blood clot in her artery which had been removed, Sarwar said.
