The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)Chairman Ijaz Butt must be feeling the pain now that the women cricket team of the country has won gold medal in the Asian Games being held in China. They have shown their worth more than their male counterparts. What is more interesting is that their heroics have taken place at a time when the national cricket team is under increasing scrutiny and criticism from the international and national press on charges of match fixing and spot fixing.
I am pretty much sure if given proper facilities and training, these women can beat our national cricket team in any form of the game. Look at their performance in the Test match against South Africa. They were hammered and the opponents piled up a huge total of around 600 scores and yet they were not all out. This much performance can be expected safely from our women players.
From domestic cricket to international cricket, too much commercialisation of our cricket has made our team a product to be sold to the highest bidder. The cricketers have started thinking themselves as products on shelves rather than talents to be used for the country.
