Long live, democracy!

The release of Aung San Suu Kyi is great news for the entire world. She represents the peaceful, though not so peaceful sometimes, struggle against tyranny and military dictatorships. She is the sign of courage, hope, struggle and perseverance.

She has a great importance for Pakistan as her life struggle resembles to that of the former prime minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto. Both were put to jail, persecuted and kept under house arrest. Both fought their peaceful political battles against military dictators and both were finally acknowledged at the international arena of political leaders.

Her release can be termed that the military junta in Myanmar might be relaxing their clutches on personal freedom and freedom of speech and assembly. But, it may not be the case as well. It could only be an eye wash to cover the rigging allegations in the recent elections.

Suu Kyi is not the only leader that is under house arrest. Many others are also. But, she could be the first one to bring them all to a situation where they could see the light of the day.
