The announcement by the World Food Programmes that it is going to halt its operations for the flood affected people of the country is not a good sign for the affectees, country and its political leadership. Whereas the government is busy in putting pressure on the US for getting military aid and pressing the same for a civil nuclear deal, it is quite disheartening to see how it has abandoned the people whom it is supposed to govern.
Rather than helping the people in dire need, the international community is not ready to even look them in the eye and say no.
They are blaming this on the government of Pakistan which lacks transparency and credibility. Even the Transparency International has put us eight positions above from our last years ranking in the list of the most corrupt nations.
How are the people in the affected areas expected to meet their basic needs? It is a mutual responsibility of the state, nation and international community. They should not forget it.
