Nawaz’s arrogance blocked merger of all PML factions
LAHORE
The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) has not reached any commitment with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) yet, Pervez Elahi said on Wednesday. Elahi said the “a week of meetings will now kick off in Jati Umrah after my meeting with PPP leader Babar Awan”, adding that the PML-Nawaz would “now discover the importance of Punjab parliamentarians”.
“Our doors are open to everyone. Babar Awan asked me for a meeting and I opened my door to him,” Elahi said, adding that he was yet to convey Awan’s message to his party members. He said it was not the first time his party had held talks with the PPP, adding that PML-Q President Shujaat Hussain had also met Awan six months ago.
However, he said, the recent talks with the PPP were in initial stages. The PML-Q leader said Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani was the first prime minister to get the vote of confidence from the opposition, adding that his party wanted the government to complete its tenure, “but they should also deliver”.
He said the Punjab Assembly was passing resolutions to curb the media, adding that PPP parliamentarians were also concerned with the ongoing situation. He said the Punjab chief minister was holding 14 ministries, adding, “The Punjab government has left all the departments to Allah’s mercy.”
He said the PML-Q was not involved in any conspiracy, adding, “The PPP and the PML-N are allies as they had fought the election against the PML-Q in Gujrat.” Elahi said the PML-N government’s performance in Punjab was appalling.
“We sacrificed so much for the Muslim League and wanted its merger but Nawaz Sharif’s arrogance has barred its unification.” He said the PML-N would realise how popular it was after the upcoming elections.
